Reflections of a Journey: Men's Weekend Retreat

It's been 30 years since the CDC received its first report of "AIDS in a person with hemophilia" due to a tainted blood supply. Of course this was just the beginning of a string of events that devastated our bleeding disorder community. You'd think we'd be over it by now. But that's not how it works. People are still suffering and dying from the effects of this epidemic. This weekend retreat is intended to offer participants a chance to reflect upon what has happened to each person individually as well as how our community has been forever altered by tragedy.

The Men’s Retreat is designed to enhance growth and renewal. Men will have the opportunity to renew relationships with friends, share life experiences with other men, opening hearts to life's joy and grief, and explore, learn and grow as men.

Some of the topics we'll discuss include:
  • Post traumatic stress disorder: how terrible events change our brains and affect our lives.
  • Sadness, grief and depression
  • Anger: how it helped us survive and its continuing value now.
  • Resilience: how we have learned to survive and even thrive in the midst of calamity.
  • The future: what lies ahead for us as individuals and as a group.
